ISO International Standards: practical tools for addressing climate change
Free ISO Brochures
This brochure describe how ISO standards offer practical tools for addressing climate change at four levels :
- Monitoring climate change;
- Quantifying GHG emissions and communicating on environmental impacts;
- Promoting good practice in environmental management and design;
- Opening world markets for energy efficient technologies.
GHG schemes addressing climate change
Free ISO Brochures
Against the background of a proliferation of greenhouse gas (GHG) programs launched to tackle climate change, ISO seeks to bring clarity with this brochure which proves an overview of the different schemes and describes the practical role that GHG metrics standards such asISO 14064 can play.
ISO 14064 is a series of three standards for reporting of greenhouse gases.
Organizational Level Guidance for Greenhouse Gas Reporting ISO 14064-1:2006 specifies principles and requirements at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals. It includes requirements for the design, development, management, reporting and verification of an organization’s GHG inventory.
Project Level Guidance for Greenhouse Gas Reporting ISO 14064-2:2006 specifies principles and requirements and provides guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of activities intended to cause greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions or removal enhancements. It includes requirements for planning a GHG project, identifying and selecting GHG sources, sinks and reservoirs relevant to the project and baseline scenario, monitoring, quantifying, documenting and reporting GHG project performance and managing data quality.
Validating and Verification of Greenhouse Gas Assertions ISO 14064-3:2006 specifies principles and requirements and provides guidance for those conducting or managing the validation and/or verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) assertions. It can be applied to organizational or GHG project quantification, including GHG quantification, monitoring and reporting carried out in accordance with ISO 14064-1 or ISO 14064-2.
ISO 14064-3:2006 specifies requirements for selecting GHG validators/verifiers, establishing the level of assurance, objectives, criteria and scope, determining the validation/verification approach, assessing GHG data, information, information systems and controls, evaluating GHG assertions and preparing validation/verification statements.
Requirements for Greenhouse Gas Validation and Verification Bodies for Use in Accreditation or other Forms of Recognition
It outlines requirements for bodies that undertake Greenhouse Gas (GHG) validation or verification using ISO 14064-3 or other relevant standards or specifications. ISO 14065 provides to GHG program administrators, regulators and accreditors, a basis for assessing and recognizing the competence of V/VB.
